Mecklenburg Electric Cooperative is concerned about the very serious energy challenges that our nation faces.  Demand for electricity is growing, even as we do our best to become more energy efficient.  There must be a balance between the increasing demand for more power and protecting our environment.  Congress and the current administration must strike the right balance between these needs when crafting our national energy policy.  Otherwise, experts predict that the cost of electricity could double or even triple.
 

You can help prevent increases in our electric bills by acting now.  Our Energy, Our Future is a campaign where you can get involved and make sure your concerns are heard.  It encourages you to contact your congressmen and senators and ask what their plan is to ensure that you will have the electricity you need in the future at a reasonable cost while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.  If the Environmental Protection Agency uses the Clean Air Act to regulate greenhouse gases, electric rates will almost certainly go up.  Go to www.ourenergy.coop  for more information.
