MEC Awards Student Scholarships
Each year Mecklenburg Electric Cooperative (MEC)
awards $500 scholarships to students at nine high
schools. The scholarships
are offered exclusively to graduating seniors who
plan to continue their education by attending an
accredited institution of higher learning
to obtain a two-year associate or four-year
bachelor’s degree and whose parents or legal
guardians are MEC members. To be eligible,
the student must have maintained at least a 3.0
grade-point average (based on 4.0 being an A)
throughout his or her high school career,
exhibited commendable leadership abilities, and
demonstrated exemplary school spirit. In addition,
further consideration is based on the
student’s unrewarded merit. Shown below are
the 2009 recipients:
Students can apply by picking up an application at
their high school’s guidance department.
