Mecklenburg Electric Cooperative Board of Directors Vice-Chairman Franklin Myers was chosen to represent MEC on the Old Dominion Electric Cooperative board at ODEC’s annual meeting last week. Myers will fill the seat being vacated by David Jones, board chairman for MEC, who retired from the ODEC board after 38 years of dedicated service.
ODEC is a not-for-profit wholesale generation and transmission cooperative and provides service to 11 member distribution cooperatives in Virginia, Maryland and Delaware, including MEC. Each of the 11 distribution cooperatives served by ODEC is represented by two members on the board: the CEO and one board member from each respective cooperative.
ODEC’s focus is to create value for its members and their member owners. ODEC provides safe, reliable, environmentally balanced power supply at an affordable and stable cost by generating and purchasing electricity, employing industry knowledge, optimizing resources, enhancing financial strength, and mitigating enterprise risk. Through effective leadership, ODEC utilizes the collective strength of its members, its employees and other cooperative organizations.
“I will have big shoes to fill,” said Myers, who began his board duties July 30. “David has served with the utmost integrity and commitment to the cooperative’s mission for nearly four decades, and I am honored that the ODEC board has entrusted me to follow in his footsteps. I will do my best to honor that trust and look forward to getting to work.”
