On Wednesday, June 18, at the Mecklenburg Electric Cooperative annual meeting, the Cooperative’s membership elected its newest board director, Jason J. Hite, of South Hill. Mr. Hite was elected to the MEC Board of Directors in accordance with the election process as outlined in MEC’s by-laws and will serve its Chase City district for a three-year term.
“MEC has a longstanding tradition of strong, respected, and experienced leadership at its board level. And the election of Jason Hite once again paves the way to continue that legacy,” said David Jones, chair of MEC’s Board of Directors. “Jason is our first board member from the millennial generation, bringing a fresh perspective that will enhance our discussions and decisions. His addition not only strengthens our leadership team but also continues our dedication to embracing diverse voices and ideas, ensuring that we pursue innovation and grow in a way that is inclusive and representative of the communities we serve. Jason has proven he cares for his community and is committed to serving the membership’s best interests.”
Hite is a first sergeant with the Virginia State Police, serving Mecklenburg and Lunenburg counties. Additionally, he has previous board level experience having served on the board of Buggs Island Telephone, from 2016 until 2020, and has served on the EMPOWER Broadband Board of Directors since its inception, a position that he will continue to hold going forward.
“I was born and raised in Mecklenburg County and have been a member of Mecklenburg Electric for 19 years,” said Hite. “I also serve on the board of directors for MEC’s subsidiary, EMPOWER Broadband. Since joining that board six years ago, I have had the pleasure of watching it grow from infancy to one of the leading broadband providers in Southside Virginia. I have also had the pleasure of serving on Buggs Island Telephone Cooperative’s board,” he said, “and during my tenure there I learned about giving back, about servant leadership and putting the interest of the members first. I consider it an honor to serve as a director of Mecklenburg Electric and represent my community.”
Hite and his wife, Amanda, have four daughters. They attend Gethsemane Baptist Church in South Hill.
Also, during the meeting, Angela B. Wilson, serving MEC’s Emporia district, and David C. Hall, serving the Gretna district, were re-elected to three-year terms.
