The Marketing and Communications team for Mecklenburg Electric Cooperative was recently recognized for their outstanding work by the Cooperative Communicators Association during its annual awards ceremony in Des Moines, IA.
The recent brand refresh for MEC received a second-place award in the Campaigns and Programs category for its newly designed MEC logo and updated and streamlined website, earning a score of 47 out of 48 points.

This award recognizes the objectives behind MEC’s new logo, and the methods used to announce it to the membership, such as Cooperative Living magazine, news outlets and social media, along with branded materials such as vehicle graphics and signage, billheads and letterhead, and promotional items. Additionally, the design, accessibility, and ease of use that the updated website provides for the end-user garnered accolades from the judges.
“Communicating with our Membership and keeping them informed is key to successfully serving our communities. I am proud of the work our communications team does each day on behalf of our Members and employees,” said David Lipscomb, MEC vice president of member and public relations. “Because of their strong communication efforts, we further the cooperative’s mission to support and promote the communities we serve.”
The CCA awards recognize the best in writing, photography, programs and projects, and publications. Nearly 400 submissions from 40 different cooperatives were entered in this year’s contest. To be considered, applicants must complete an online application outlining details of the project including objectives, goals and production process. Volunteer judges, with a demonstrated history in communications, score each entry based on category-specific criteria.
